The question I often get asked is, "Why did you become an Acupuncturist?"

There are two answers to this question, one more straightforward than the other!

Firstly, I love doing a job where I get to help people on a daily basis. When a patient tells me about the positive impact that acupuncture has had on their health and wellbeing, I am so thrilled that I am able to play a part in changing people's lives. I love doing a job that involves helping others, both through direct treatment and lifestyle changes. Being able to use an ancient form of medicine in a modern and evidence based way is what makes being an acupuncturist so exciting.

My second answer begins in the late 1970s in the traditional herbal medicine shops of Hong Kong. This is where I spent hours as a child, fascinated by the unusual items, while my mother did her shopping in the market. During my childhood in Hong Kong, the Chinese approach to health made so much sense to me, and formed the foundation of my own approach to health and wellbeing which I now share with my patients.

After graduating from the University of East Anglia with a BA(Hons) in English Literature and Philosophy, I worked for Neal's Yard Remedies as the Manager of their Norwich store, and then as the Manager of their flagship store in Covent Garden. It was here that I gained experience in all aspects of complementary medicine, as well as studying different forms of massage and bodywork.

After taking a break to travel and start a family, I then studied at the prestigious College of Integrated Chinese Medicine where I received my BSc(Hons) in Acupuncture. For the past twelve years I have had clinics at Neal's Yard Remedies in Salisbury and at the Arch Clinic in Fordingbridge. Although I am a general practitioner, I have undertaken advanced training in many aspects of womens' health.

If you are wondering whether acupuncture is right for you, or wish to discuss your specific symptoms, please read more about acupuncture here, or contact me for more information. You can book an appointment by calling the clinics directly.

"Watching the scores of people practising tai chi in the parks every morning and experiencing the Chinese approach to health and lifestyle made a lasting impression on me."
